Basecamp Terlingua and Big Bend National Park Adventurous Fall Elopement

There’s so much to share about this day! Like many in 2020, Priscila and Hunter were in the middle of planning a large wedding when they realized the reality of COVID impacting plans, made them reflect on what they really wanted out of their wedding day. Soon after exploring elopement day options, they found me!

We began the process of planning their elopement and had to change dates a few times due to Big Bend National Park closing, but that didn’t stop Priscila and Hunter from having an elopement day, true to them!

We started the day with a sunrise first look and hike, then fought through 90-degree heat in the middle of the day for some amazing epic views via Lost Mine Trail! These two were such troopers climbing up all the switchbacks to the top! For those wondering, Priscila changed out of her wedding dress for the hike due to how strenuous it was!

The day ended at Basecamp Terlingua at one of the Bubbles! Priscila and Hunter both have a background in architecture, so ending their day here seemed fitting and the perfect combo to reflect their personalities on their wedding day. They did a traditional first dance, cut their cake, and incorporated a few other wedding day traditions with a modern twist! I love that Priscila brought Concha, a traditional Mexican sweet bread roll. Small touches like this personalize the day in a special way. Hunter incorporated his grandfather's bolo tie into his vintage western suit.

I look back at Priscila and Hunter’s day with fond memories. We bonded over our love for Austin, the local music, art, and our love for the outdoors. I also got to be a part of their wedding ceremony and speak a few words, which is always special to me! This elopement wedding day was one of a kind and hope it brings inspiration for your own elopement dreams!

About the Big Bend National Park Area Locations

Basecamp Terlingua

If you don’t know about Basecamp, you're in for a treat! It’s a glamping experience in West Texas that offers tipis, casitas, campsites, retro trailers, tents, and the famous Bubbles they are known for. The architecture is beyond unique. The area feels like another world and provides an experience like no other. Basecamp does not offer weddings on-site, but if you're looking for a place to host friends and family for a wedding in the area, such as Willow House, this is it!

Balanced Rock

Is an easy and flat hike until you get to the mound of rocks! You have to scramble up a small and not so easy path that eventually ends at a picturesque area for photos. Though the hike is primarily flat, it does take a good amount of time, especially in the heat! This trail doesn’t offer any shade, so you have to be careful about when you do it!

Lost Mine Trail

This trail is not for the faint of heart! The views are breathtaking as you slowly climb to the top and fight up the switchbacks! I’ve only hiked this trail in early and mid-October, which is still hot in Big Bend. I only recommend this trail for couples eloping who are very active and truly want an adventure. You will certainly sweat and need to be prepared to bring lots of water and snacks!

Big Bend National Park and the surrounding area is definitely the wild west! There isn’t much out in the area, especially when it comes to accommodations, food, and luxuries, which I always tell my clients. It’s one of my favorite places and hopefully, you can see that in this gallery!

Talented Vendors that made this Big Bend National Park Elopement perfect:

Florals: Mountain Laurel Floral

Bride’s Hair and Make-up: Bride

Groom’s Suit and Shoes: Vintage Western Suit and Shoes

Groom’s Bolo Tie: Grandfather’s

Heirlooms and items from their home were also included!
