Lake Isabelle in Indian Peaks Wilderness Area Five Year Hiking Anniversary Session, Luke and Haley

Colorado Adventure Photographer

When Haley contacted me about planning a five-year anniversary couple’s session while visiting Colorado in early October, I was 100% onboard. I absolutely love helping couples plan adventure photography sessions that are unique to their personality and relationship. Plus, Colorado offers a beautiful backdrop for outdoor photography.

Before the trip, Haley and I discussed their vision and logistical details. We decided on Lake Isabelle in Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, which is outside of Boulder, Colorado. I planned their adventure session to include a hike that ended at the base of a mountain.

Haley and Luke exchanged letters at the end of our hike, committing themselves to one another afresh. The fall colors were in full bloom and no one was around, which is ideal for this type of intimate anniversary session. I loved the intention they invested in making their anniversary and couple’s session meaningful. It wasn’t simply another photo shoot, but rather an experience and celebration of their love and life together.

About the Location – Lake Isabelle and Boulder, Colorado

Lake Isabelle is great trail with minimal elevation gain and tons of variety in terrain along the way! From mountain lakes to lush meadows, the trail has it all! In June, July and August, the trail gets busy since it’s normally closed during colder months due to the snow fall at its high elevation. There is even a designated ceremony location in the area that has fantastic mountain views. This makes a great spot for anyone looking to elope or have a small intimate wedding ceremony.

Nearby Boulder offers many lodging options from mountain cabin rentals to upscale hotels, like the St Julien Hotel and Spa or Hotel Boulderado. Boulder has a variety of local restaurants, breweries and venues to host a party or reception. Whether you prefer the laidback vibe of Avery Brewing Company or the upscale setting of the Flagstaff House Restaurant, you’ll find the right fit here to create your dream celebration. In addition, the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse and Chautauqua Dining Hall offer the perfect location for a rehearsal dinner or a special meal for an anniversary getaway. My personal favorite is River and Woods! It has an intimate outdoor setting, perfect for a small wedding reception!

Both Lake Isabelle and Boulder are perfect for a vow renewal, elopement, anniversary celebration or adventure wedding ceremony.

Planning Your Adventure Session

My process for planning adventure sessions includes asking couples questions to better understand their personalities and vision for the event.

  • What locations make you feel the most alive? Mountains, trees or mountain lakes or rivers?

  • Is it important to have variety of terrains in your photos?

  • How much hiking do you want to do?

My goal is for you to be in an environment that’s 100% you, whether that be a new destination or previously visited location! Couple’s photos shouldn’t be a grand photo shoot, rather a time for you and your partner to connect and enjoy one another, just like Luke and Haley!
