Arches National Park Desert Elopement Inspiration in Moab, UT

Moab, UT Elopement Photographer

To say Moab, Utah is one of my favorite places to visit and shoot is an understatement. The drive into Moab is a surreal experience. The formations and colors make you feel like you’re on another planet. I’ve never visited another place like Moab in my life!

Landon and Mikayla might look warm in their photos, but they braved frigid temperatures during their sunrise adventure session. Thankfully, the sun came out in full force, giving off warmth and some amazing light to play with during their session.

Arches National Park is one of the best places to elope in the US. However, the park service only allows ceremonies to happen at nine areas in the park. As an adventure photographer and guide, I work with couples to plan the details for their elopement. This includes knowing the right places for a wedding ceremony or photoshoot.

Elopement and Intimate Wedding Locations in Arches National Park

The Windows Section (North Window, South Window, Turret Arch, or Double Arch)

The Windows Section areas are easily accessible and relatively close to one another, offering a variety in scenery. While this is a popular tourist spot in Arches, there are certain times of the day and year where people are scarce! The park limits the group size to 50 people for the Windows Section.

Sand Dune Arch

This location is beyond unique! From the trailhead, you would have no idea what lies ahead. You navigate through slot canyons for a short bit before turning a corner to this small arch. This is a perfect location for a morning ceremony. Also, it is close to other arches and iconic locations. The park limits the group size to 25 people at the Sand Dune Arch.

Delicate Arch

Delicate Arch takes some dedication to reach! The hike to Delicate Arch is only three-miles, but part of the trail has a steep summit with elevation gains of 613 feet total. Therefore, I only recommend this location for a small group of people that are willing to hike. This location can be extremely touristy and while offering amazing views, can be challenging for those afraid of heights. The park limits the group size to only 10 people.

Delicate Arch Viewpoint

This area gives you the opposite view of the trail from Delicate Arch. With less than a mile walk, this trail is good for anyone with physical limitations. However, the trail can get icy at times during the winter as with any location in the area. The park limits the group size to 25.

Landscape Arch

Landscape Arch earned its name for a reason! It perfectly frames the landscape to offer a unique perspective. Also, the trail is full of amazing views along the way, producing a variety of photo backdrops. Wooden gates make this area a bit confined; therefore, the group size allowed by the park is only 10 people.

Pine Tree Arch

Take a short detour from Landscape Arch to find this location. The Pine Tree Arch is not well-marked. This means the area usually doesn’t have many people around. In a popular national park like Arches, this is a big plus. The park limits the group size to 25 people.

Park Avenue

Park Avenue offers an easy trail with iconic views of Moab often seen in magazines and other resources. This area is one of my favorites! The park limits the group size to 25 people.

Devils Garden Campground Amphitheater

Devils Garden Campground is the only campground in Arches National Park. The area has a paved surface and includes two ADA accessible campsites. This is a plus for anyone looking to accommodate guests with physical limitations. The park limits the group size to 80 people.

Panorama Point

This spot is about midway into the park and gives you a view of The Windows, wide-open spaces and the La Sal Mountains in the distance. The area is flat and easily accessible with stunning views. The park limits the group size to 50 people.

Arches National Park Elopement Photography or Intimate Wedding Planning

To get married in Arches National Park, you must secure a special use permit first. The permit is specific to the location; therefore, first decide your wedding location from the nine available options. The permit is $185 and instructions to apply are available online.

Moab is a popular destination in the cooler months, like April, May, September and October. If you want to plan an event during this time, select a weekday and submit your application well in advance.

Other Notes for Arch National Park Adventures:

  • Dogs must always remain on the paved trails and wear a leash.

  • The park only allows limited decorations and set-up.

  • You cannot occupy the area under or next to any arch for more than 10 minutes when other visitors are present.
